Ascension Day Confirmation Service – pictures

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved… it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith….

from the Pastoral Introduction to the Baptism Service.

Twenty adults were Confirmed at St Mary’s by Bishop John Gladwin at our Ascension Day Eucharist on Thursday 13th May 2010.  You can view a selection of pictures of the service here.

Confirmation is the ‘follow-on’ from baptism, where the promises of Christian discipleship are renewed and the Bishop lays hands on each individual, praying for the gift of the Holy Spirit.  When adults are baptised, confirmation follows soon afterwards (sometimes in the same service).  When babies are baptised, Confirmation usually takes place around the late teens, but we are now able to admit children to Holy Communion from the age of 7.
