Study & Discussion

Autumn Teaching Course

Each year, beginning in September, the Autumn Teaching Course is an opportunity for more in depth teaching on a particular aspect of spirituality or biblical  understanding.  As part of our ecumenical partnership, the clergy of St Mary’s and Brookside Methodist Church present a teaching course over five fortnightly sessions.

Previous courses: Understanding the Sacraments; The Parables of the Kingdom; Grasping for God – the Mysical Tradition; The Miracles of the New Testament; Aspects of Prayer; The Churches Healing Ministry; and Streams of Living Water: Understanding Different Spiritual Traditions.

When available, details of the next Autumn Teaching Course will be posted here.

Thursday Bible Study Group

The Thursday Bible Study Group meets throughout the year, taking time to study Scripture – either working through a book of the Bible, or focusing on a biblical theme.  For details contact the Parish Office.

Lent Groups

Between the congregations of the East Barnet Anglican-Methodist Partnership, Lent Groups are an important part of our preparation for Holy Week and Easter.  In recent years we have based our study groups on current theological books  e.g. Tokens of Trust by Rowan Williams, and The Last Week by Marcus Borg & John Dominic Crossan.

Parenting Group

In partnership with Brookside Methodist Church, our first Parenting Course took place in  the Summer of 2009, focused on parents of children aged 5-15 years, and was based on resource material from the Family Care Trust.

One of those taking part said:

It’s given me a lot more confidence as a parent, and it was really helpful to chat and share ideas with others.  It wasn’t at all how I thought it might be, as no one was telling us what we ought to do – but together we thought through new skills and ways of doing thing which have made a big difference in our family.  It was also great fun!

There are no parenting courses scheduled during the vacancy.
